International Consortium for Communication in Health Care (IC4CH)

Research and Impact Initiative for Communication in Healthcare (HKU RIICH) at the Faculty of Arts, the University of Hong Kong is excited to announce that we are joining with internationally renowned research centres across the world to establish the International Consortium for Communication in Health Care (IC4CH).
IC4CH will build an international, interdisciplinary, collaborative research and training hub in healthcare communication to improve patient safety and quality of healthcare practice around the world. The consortium’s mission is to translate cutting-edge communication research into best practice and training for safe and compassionate health care.
The consortium members are:
- Australian National University (Australia)
- RIICH team, University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)
- Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)
- University College London (UK)
- Lancaster University (UK)
- Queensland University of Technology (Australia)
Associate Professor Dr. Olga Zayts-Spence, Director of the Research and Impact Initiative on Communication in Healthcare believes the consortium will enable the member organisations to conduct impactful research.
“Being part of the consortium allows HKU RIICH team to join a dynamic group of world renowned and young and aspiring scholars w ho are committed to impactful interdisciplinary research on health communication. The consortium bridges best international practices of health communication research and practice with country- and context- specific practices. Bringing together our expertise across language and communication, social sciences and medicine, connections with industries, NGOs, and healthcare institutions across the globe enables us to conduct research which can make a difference in Hong Kong and beyond,” says Associate Professor Olga Zayts-Spence.
Professor Diana Slade, Director of the Institute for Health Communication at the Australian National University that will host the consortium in the next three years, says, “The establishment of this consortium is an exciting development for healthcare communication research globally. I believe that working together across borders and disciplines will give us the unity and strength to realise our collective vision of creating a future in which healthcare is safe, compassionate, sensitive and supportive for patients, carers and clinicians”
