Academics and Experts Discuss on the US-China Trade War
The Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has invited Professor Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-Large with the Singapore Foreign Ministry as the guest speaker of the Edward KY Chen Distinguished Lecture 2018. Having served as Singapore’s Ambassador to the US for 16 years, and being Singapore’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Professor Chan will share her insights on the current political and economic relations between the US and Asia, including the possibility of a new US-China Cold War, relations between the US and ASEAN, the political situation on the Korean Peninsula after the US and North Korea broke the ice, and more.
Academics and experts will also share their insights on the impact of the US-China trade war as well as ways to tackle the challenges at a panel discussion. There will also be a Q&A session for guest speakers and audiences to exchange views.

About the Speaker:
Professor Chan Heng Chee chairs the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities in the Singapore University of Technology and Design. She is Ambassador-at-Large with the Singapore Foreign Ministry. She is also a Member of the Presidential Council of Minority Rights, Chairman of the National Arts Council, Deputy Chairman of the Social Science Research Council, and a Member of the Advisory Council on the Ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) and Data. She is a Trustee of the National University of Singapore and Member of the Yale-NUS Governing Board. She serves as a Member of the Executive Board of the China Cultural Centre. She was elected Global Co-Chair of the Asia Society in November 2017.
Ambassador Chan served as Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States from July 1996 to 14 July 2012. She was Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1989 to 1991 and was concurrently High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador to Mexico.
